Eagerly anticipated, this third book from pinball author Michael Shalhoub includes over 900 colour photos and covers the most recent period in pinball history, from 1982 through 2005. Each chapter is devoted to a specific year and features descriptions, release dates, and historical significances on the games released that year from manufacturers Gottlieb, Williams, Bally, Data East, Stern, Sega and others. Current values are listed for each machine shown in the book. Interspersed with the games are stories and interviews with many of the legendary designers and artists who created them. Readers will gain fascinating insight into the planning that went into the games, how the designers and artists got their start in the business, behind the scenes tales of life in the pinball world and more.

“Michael Shalhoub’s Pinball Compendium is a great documentary of our business” says designer Steve Ritchie of the second book in the trilogy. “I especially like the personal insight he gives readers into the personalities behind the pion game business, and the great photos he has come up with. I learn something new everytime I pick up the book.” Along with its two companions volumes (The first covering the 1930’s -1960’s and the second covering 1970-1981), this book is a must have for all who love the sights and sounds of the world’s great pinball machines.

When the book was being written it was planned to have it all in one volume. As soon as it was completed the publisher and myself decided to split it into three volumes, the first volume covering the period 1930's-1960's, the second book covering the period 1970-1981, and the third covering 1982-2005.

About the author:

My Name is Michael Shalhoub, I was born in Sydney Australia in 1962 and became acquainted with pinball machines at the early age of six. I am the proprietor of my own business "Pinball Master Sales and service" as well as an enthusiastic pinball collector with over 300 machines in my collection. My next venture is to coordinate the opening of the first pinball museum in Australia along with my good friend Alan Tate. I wrote the book as a tribute to all those who were part of pinball's amazing history.
Just a little on the museum it will be built on the Gold Coast and will have over 800 pinball's and novelty games. The land has been purchased with over 12 acres and Alan Tate and myself will help keep the pinball dream alive as we hope to have Pinball Expo downunder.

It has always been a dream to meet the designers of pinball games I played growing up. Which was mainly Electro-Mechanical from the late 60's till the late 70's. Thanks to Rob Berk and Mike Pacak who both organize the Expos, my dream became a reality at Pinball Expo 2001. I was the first speaker at 2.00pm, I am not usually a nervous person but when I got up to speak I was lost for words. I was in another world, I hadn’t slept for over 24 hours and I kept pinching myself that I was in the pinball capital of the world Chicago. While I was doing my speech I glanced over and saw sitting in the Audience were Wayne Neyens and Steve Kordek two of my heroes. During the talk I presented them both with a souvenir from Downunder in appreciation for their great work in the industry. That evening at fireside chat Rob Berk had organized Kevin O'Connor, Greg Freres, Margaret Hudson and Pat McMahon to talk about their work in the industry. It was such a pleasure being able to talk to them later in the evening, I had contacted them on the phone and have their stories of how they started in the industry.

I met Wayne Neyens, Norm Clark, Steve Kordek and Ed Krynsky all responsible for designing classic games from the 1950’s and 1960’s. It was a dream come true spending time with them I had prior to going to the States spend hours talking with them asking them questions to put in the book. One person whom I didn’t meet and deeply regret was Harvey Heiss for those who don’t know him he was the designer at Genco who sadly passed away on the 6th of January 2002. I was the last person to interview him and his story with photos is one of the book highlights.

When the book was being written it was planned to have it all in one volume. As soon as it was completed the publisher and myself decided to split it in two, the first volume covering the period 1930's-1960's. The second book will cover the 1970's-today.
